How it works

How it works

Online plans can be booked and paid for immediately. In-person plans go through an availability check first.

  1. STEP 01

    Get in touch

Send me your preferred dates, group size and what you're interested in. I reply within 24 hours. For hikes, tell me about your hiking history and recent fitness too.

  2. STEP 02

    I propose a plan

I confirm availability, then propose a meeting point, a time, a rough route and what to bring. We adjust it until it fits.

  3. STEP 03

    Payment

Once we've settled the plan I email a Stripe payment link. Card, Apple Pay and Google Pay, including cards issued outside Japan. Your booking is confirmed when payment clears.

  4. STEP 04

    You book transport and lodging

Getting to the meeting point, and where you sleep, are yours to arrange. I am not a registered travel agent, so I cannot book them for you. I can tell you which routes and which areas are worth considering.

  5. STEP 05

    On the day

We meet on location and part on location. If we take trains or buses, each of us buys our own ticket. If weather makes the day unwise, you'll hear from me by 18:00 the day before.

Why I don't book your transport or lodging

In Japan, arranging transport or accommodation for a fee requires registration as a travel agent under the Travel Agency Act. I don't hold that registration, so I don't do it. What I sell is my own time as a guide, and nothing else. I'm still happy to tell you which routes and areas are worth considering — just ask.
