Six years as a tour conductor, at home and abroad — more than thirty countries, and a promotion to the company's "popular conductor" grade. The job was never about explaining monuments. It was about connections, health, language, weather and the mood inside a family: spotting what was about to go wrong, and quietly removing it first.

For the four years after that I trained the guides instead. As an instructor at a staffing company I put around thirty conductors into the field. On the sales side I hit ¥2m in monthly revenue and received the company president's award in 2021.

Since 2022 I've worked freelance, running web development alongside tour conducting. In 2025 I widened that into building working tools with generative AI. This site is mine too — designed and built end to end.

Besides Japanese I work in English and Portuguese at a conversational level, and can manage simple exchanges in Spanish. There are very few Portuguese-speaking guides in Japan. I hold the General grade of Japan's Certified Tour Conductor qualification, covering both overseas and domestic package tours, and I still work in the field on assignment from travel companies. I take work from both individual travellers and travel companies.

After thirty countries, the place I most wanted to show people turned out to be the one I'm from. So now I guide in the other direction.

A tour conductor's job is to protect the itinerary. The coach leaves at the time it says it leaves. So when someone asks what is down that side street, the answer is usually no — "I'm sorry, we don't have the time" — and I am the one who walks on first. I did that many times over six years. The places you don't take people to are the ones that stay with you. These days I take one group a day. If you want to see what's down the side street, we can go.
